Participation is expected from youth and adults in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, California, Alaska and Canada. In addition to a series of workshops for youth, there will be workshops for teachers, leaders, community members, service providers, and parents.

We are excited about the possibility that over 500 LGBTQ individuals and straight allies will join us in Spokane to network, learn and support each other. It is truly going to be an amazing event. Stay tuned for more details!

The conference will examine the issue of privilege from various perspectives including those of educators, students, scholars, and community activists. Are you interested in learning how to best support lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and questioning youth?

This training is perfect for school counselors and administrators, youth works, teachers, non-profit volunteers, LGBTQ folks and professionals who want to learn how to best support youth, youth workers who want to learn more about supporting queer and trans youth, domestic violence advocates, Americorps volunteers and community members not affiliated with any organizations and just want to learn more!

This training will cover broad information about LGBTQ youth and youth empowerment as well as practical day to day information about what supporting LGBTQ youth can look like.

The annual White Privilege Conference (WPC) serves as a yearly opportunity to examine and explore difficult issues related to white privilege, white supremacy and oppression.

WPC provides a forum for critical discussions about diversity, multicultural education and leadership, social justice, race/racism, sexual orientation, gender relations, religion and other systems of privilege/oppression. WPC is recognized as a challenging, empowering and educational experience. The workshops, keynotes and institutes not only inform participants, but engage and challenge them, while providing practical tips and strategies for combating inequality. Keynote Speaker: Elizabeth Birch, one of the most recognized leaders of the gay and lesbian civil rights movement, served as executive director of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) for nearly a decade. With passion and an engaging style, she shares her incredible experiences as a civil rights activist, encouraging audiences to embrace differences and better understand the lives of others. For her incredible civil rights work, Birch has been awarded one of the highest civil rights honors in the country from the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights.

Prior to joining HRC, Birch was the worldwide director of litigation for Apple Computer, Inc. and general counsel to Claris Corp., Apple’s software subsidiary, and has important experience working with corporate America. She brings her civil rights perspective to organizations and businesses, showing the best ways to develop and implement non-discrimination and domestic partner benefits policies.
