(2) White House LGBT Conference on Safe Schools & Communities (March 20; Arlington, TX)

Hosted by the White House and the U.S. Department of Justice, in partnership with The University of Texas at Arlington College of Liberal Arts Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice and the College of Education and Health Professions. Featuring: Eric H. Holder, Jr., Attorney General of the United States & Valerie B. Jarrett, Senior Advisor to the President. Similar events will be taking place throughout the states in the next coming months.

(3) Bullying and Suicide Workshop Presentation (March 23; Seattle, WA)

On Friday (3/23/12), Heather Carter, MA will be presenting on Bullying and Suicide with a focus on Youth and LGTBQ communities. (4) NCBI Community Building Bridges Workshop (March 23; Missoula, MT)

Join NCBI for our annual Community Building Bridges Workshop Friday, March 23rd from 9AM-4PM. This prejudice-reduction workshop creates a safe learning environment for participants to examine misinformation about race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, class, disabilities, and other differences; develop greater awareness and pride in our own identities; deepen understanding of one another€™s experiences of mistreatment; and develop the skills and confidence to act as allies to all groups. (7) Script Frenzy 2012 (April 1-30; anywhere)

Script Frenzy is an international writing event in which young participants attempt the creatively daring feat of writing an entire script in the month of April. For 30 days, you get to let your imagination take over and create the film, TV show, play, or graphic novel of your dreams! That means participants begin writing April 1 and must finish by midnight, April 30. The script goal for our adult program is 100 pages, but the Young Writers Program (YWP) allows 17-and-under participants to set reasonable, yet challenging, individual page-count goals. (8) Northwest Network Spring 2012 Relationship Skills Class (April 2-May 14; Seattle, WA)

This is a 7 week course exploring the skills we need to build the relationships we want. Meeting will be on Mondays, April 2nd €“May 14th, 2012, 6-8:30 pm. Topics include: Identifying cultural norms & personal values, accountability, naming & setting boundaries, strengthening support networks and more! This class is open to: Bisexual people & their friends & loved ones, Trans people & their friends & loved ones,  LGBTQ people,  and is open to all regardless of relationship status or history. Suggested donation: $90.00 BUT no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Scholarships & Trades available. Interpreters are available, if you would need an interpreter we would be happy to provide one, please register by Monday, March 19th, 2012. Registration requested by March 26th, 2012.

WHAT IS A SPEAK SUMMIT?

A SPEAK Summit is a day-long program where students come to learn leadership skills and practical solutions to facilitate change in their schools. The day is filled with presentations, workshops, panel discussions, and programs facilitated by experienced educators, student leaders, community activists, and motivational speakers. SPEAK Summits aim to teach students the importance of meaningful involvement and leadership in the LGBTQ community.

WHO CAN ATTEND SPEAK SUMMITS?

SPEAK Summits are designed for high school and college students who are looking to learn leadership skills to bring back to their schools. Students don€™t have to belong to an existing student organization to attend. Gay-Straight alliances, LGBTQ student organizations as well as advisors are encouraged to attend.
