RISK is an alternative educational program that is part of PSKS-Peace for the Streets by Kids from the Streets; targeting 16-25 year olds with unique needs and barriers to academic progress, ranging from, substance abuse, mental health issues, social anxiety to homelessness and who have not been successful in the traditional school system. The program facilitates General Educational Development (GED) completion, FAFSA & COMPASS testing. RISK partners with the Seattle Education Access & Seattle Central Community College, and is funded in part by the United Way of King County.
We are hiring an instructor who will also fulfill administrative duties.

General Description of Duties:

 
The RISK instructor is responsible for consulting with students, community partners, school personnel, and PSKS personnel to coordinate academic, employment (LEAP), and case management (CHCM) services for students. The primary goal of the director/teacher is to advocate for the students and provide the necessary ingredients for the students’ academic progress.

1. Prefer Washington State certified teacher with high school endorsements in one or more core subject areas (not required)

The University District Youth Center (UDYC), a program of Catholic Community Services of King County, offers diverse programs that effectively serve youth to break away from homelessness and prevent them from entering a cycle of adult homelessness. UDYC provides homeless, at risk, runaway, and/or street involved youth ages 13-22 the opportunity, tools, & support in transitioning to improved living while creating a safe, nurturing environment that value and respects the cultural diversity of the youth we serve. UDYC responds to youth's immediate needs, offering access to food, clothing, hygiene facilities, work experience opportunities and provides a time of respite away from street life. Case managers focus on assisting youth in transitioning from the streets to permanent housing. Our Zine program offers employment-counseling, access to job training, and an on-site employment program focused on developing creative and writing skills. On-site partner agencies offer programs that help UDYC provide a continuum of services to youth. The UDYC Interagency School, run by Seattle Public Schools, provides both high school completion and GED courses. POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the YouthBuild Program Manager, the YouthBuild Transition Coordinator will coordinate and support the education and employment placement, case management, and workforce components for the graduates of 'YouthCare YouthBuild One'.

YouthCare's YouthBuild engages homeless and high risk youth and young adults in building affordable housing in Seattle-King County.  Based on a national model funded by the the US Department of Labor, YouthBuild offers young people, aged 18-24, skills in construction trades, paid work experience, leadership training and education.

The YouthBuild Transition Coordinator will work directly with the YouthBuild Program Staff, students, YouthCare support staff, Seattle Public Schools Faculty, community homeless youth providers and educational / vocational learning centers to support YouthBuild students in transforming their lives towards goals of self-sufficiency and positive community.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide support services for YouthCare YouthBuild graduates.  Work in conjunction with community college personnel, community partners, employers, and case mangers when applicable.
  • Work to support the education and employment placement of YouthCare YouthBuild graduates, in coordination with other YouthBuild staff and complimentary YouthCare programming.
  • Maintain participant files in compliance with YouthBuild USA and YouthCare expectations and comply with all monitoring activities of YouthBuild.
  • Document and track all YouthCare YouthBuild graduates outcomes.
  • Assist in trainings and activities for staff and youth.
  • Participate in Orion Center, YouthBuild team and YouthCare meetings as needed.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Employment and Education Manager, the Civic Justice Corps (CJC) Program Coordinator will oversee the implementation of the educational, leadership development, workforce development, and MIS and grant reporting components of the project.

YouthCare's CJC serves homeless youth who have been under the supervision of the juvenile justice system within the past 12 months.  The model of the CJC is to use meaningful service learning to successfully re-integrate youth back into the community while they rebuild their lives with job skills training, secondary education services (GED or HSD) and leadership development.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise the daily operations of the Civic Justice Corps program, including the coordination of the service learning, education, life skills, job placement, leadership, and case management components.
  • Ensure the educational, vocational and/or job placement of Civic Justice Corps graduates, in coordination with other program staff.
  • Recruit, hire and supervise Civic Justice Corps program staff. Coordinate relevant training and staff development activities.
  • Manage the Civic Justice Corps contract and budget, including monitor expenditures, grant reporting and data tracking per Department of Labor Civic Justice Corps requirements,. Ensure accurate and timely reporting and that project is meeting program outcomes. 
  • Cultivate and maintain community partnerships to achieve Civic Justice Corps outcomes; manage Memorandums of Agreements (MOAs) and other key collaborations.
  • Develop systems and program operations in conjunction with Civic Justice Corps and other agency staff and participants.  Maintain a focus on continuous quality improvement.
  • Participate in Civic Justice Corps USA committees, training opportunities and events as needed; ensure continuous improvement via Civic Justice Corps USA certifications and affiliation.
  • Participate in Orion Center management team and attend YouthCare meetings.
  • Participate in Orion Center core activities, including assisting with meals and drop-in services.
  • Support the planning and implementation of ongoing fund-raising efforts for Civic Justice Corps program.

Outreach Coordinator’s Role:
The role of the Outreach Coordinator is to help fulfill objectives that sustain a statewide network of LGBTA students and GSAs through direct organizing and outreach.

  • Provide support to six Regional GSA Coalitions and Advisors and incorporate 18+ Coalition partners into the on-going work of the coalition
  • Coordinate and enhance current statewide leadership development and organizing events including the Queer Leadership Summit, Day at the Capitol, and GSA Conference
