(1) The Safe Schools Coalition will be serving as Community Co-Presenter for the film "Boy Cheerleaders" at the Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival! (Oct 22; Seattle, WA)

4:30 pm, Pacific Place (downtown)

About the film: This refreshing documentary follows the DAZL Diamonds, from the industrial, working-class northern English town of Leeds, as they attempt to become the first all-boy cheerleading squad to place in the UK National Cheerleading Finals. These enthusiastic and talented lads, ranging in age from 8 to 13, dream of becoming “the next Billy Elliott,” while their charming single moms struggle with despair over their challenging circumstances. The inspirational instructors Ian and Cherry fill the roles of surrogate parents and emotional supporters in this affecting story of determination and triumph against the odds.

Wednesday, September 28, 2:00-3:00pm EDT, 12 noon PDT

Want to engage and motivate your audience for behavior change? Interested in applying message framing techniques but were afraid it would take a lot of time, money, or both? Tune in to our next webinar to learn about one state injury and violence prevention program’s experience using message framing to develop youth suicide messages.

North Carolina was one of three states that participated in a 12month training and technical assistance project provided by the CDC. The goal of the project was to help the states apply message framing techniques to develop messages for priority injury areas. Learn about the process of engaging stakeholders, working on message development, and most importantly finding out what the audienceteensthought about our attempt 2 rel8 2 em (click for a translation). Tips on audience research with a shoestring budget and the findings from the teen’s input will be covered.

(3) WSAME (Washington State Association for Multicultural Education) annual conference -- come see Safe Schools Coalition receive an award for Multicultural Excellence! (Oct 22; Seattle, WA)

Is Multicultural Education Obsolete?
17th Annual WSAME Fall Conference
Saturday Oct 22, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
North Seattle Community College
9600 College Way North

A panel of distinguished guests examine the state of Multicultural Education today. How has it changed -- or has it? Is it still relevant -- or has it outlived its use? What should replace it -- or will it disappear on its own? Has the “canon” fired its last round -- or is it just being reloaded? Join WSAME as we look back to find the future of Multicultural Education in America. Is there a light at the end of the tunnel --
or is it just an illusion?
