Welcoming Schools is a comprehensive approach offering a tool kit to create welcoming schools that address family diversity, avoiding and eliminating gender role stereotyping, and ending bullying.
Being an Ally to LGBTQ Youth
December 8, 2012 - 10:30-12:30
This workshop will explore ways to be an ally to LGBTQ youth in schools and other social service agencies. Participants will take part in activities designed to increase awareness of the issues that LGBTQ youth face and will practice ways to engage others in conversation around these issues.
Building Skills Toward Responding to Micro-Aggressions
December 8, 2012 - 1:00-5:00
This workshop will provide opportunities for self-exploration and collective exploration of ways our communication can reflect socially just engagement with our students, colleagues, and our communities.
LGBTQ Bullying and Harassment: Prevention and Intervention
December 15, 2012 - 10:30-1:30
Explore case studies of anti-LGBTQ bullying, harassment and intimidation and practice strategies for recognizing it. Share skills of intervention and develop prevention strategies. Know school-related law and policy regarding LGBTQ issues.
Intersections: LGBTQ Youth of Color and Immigrant Youth
December 15, 2012 - 2:00-5:00
Examine approaches for supporting LGBTQ youth of color and/or LGBTQ immigrant youth. Critically examine homophobia and/or transphobia in popular culture and learn strategies of using popular culture to discuss these issues.
